In Sicily the 2009 prestigeous international meeting in inorganic chemistry

Palermo to host the 10th FIGIPAS chemistry conference

The capital of Sicily region, Palermo, has been selected as host city for the FIGIPAS10 international chemistry conference whose past edition successfully closed in Vienna last July with 340 participants from 40 countries. " The choice of Sicily -- says Maurizio Peruzzini, member of Italy's delegation at the conference Advisory Board -- will strengthen once more the Mediterranean soul inspiring the founders of this series of events ". "I am sure Palermo will be a great success -- adds University of Seville's Ernesto Carmona -- a meeting to remember for a long time".

The conference will be held on the first week of July 2009 organized by a team jointly led by Italy's Research Council research chemist Mario Pagliaro and University of Palermo's chemistry professor Leonardo Palmisano. On March 10, 2008 the website conference will be published at the URL www.figipas.org  Therein it will be made possible to users to apply online posting on the web all sort of relevant information.

The FIGIPAS series of meetings in inorganic chemistry started in 1990 in Spain. Every second year a country represented in the international Advisory Board (France, Italy, Greece, Israel, Portugal, Austria and Spain) is asked to organize the conference. The 10th meeting will be held in Palermo, Italy, on July 2009. Rresearch chemists Mario Pagliaro and Leonardo Palmisano lead the local organizing committee.

Beautifully sited on a wide bay under the bulk of Monte Pellegrino, Sicily's capital Palermo is a place of beauty that is being revived and restored. At various times during its varied and colourful history Palermo has enjoyed a position as one of the greatest cities of Europe, particularly under Arab and Norman domination in the Middle Ages. The legacy of the past is evident today in its treasure-trove of Byzantine, Baroque and Norman historic buildings and relics in its many museums.

"On behalf of the Italian chemical community -- add Pagliaro and Palmisano -- we gratefully acknowledge the choice of the International Advisory Board and look forward to organize a great scientific conference with a fascinating social program ".
